I wear a sleeveless jacket thing during the winter months for the commute home (go on laugh), but see very few others.
What's your view on these? |

I wear one when it's dark and dingy in winter, and I notice the difference.
<---- and also on my first trackday _________________ peterpi: "like a randy dog on a stranger's leg"

I've never worn them, and never wanted to - always thought that only knobs and old gits wear them.
But I must be turning into one of them now, course I can see the benefits, and would consider wearing them if riding conditions were that bad. _________________ Adventure before dementia. |

My leathers are black so a bright yellow thing really stands out. I wear it and I don't really care if other people think it is sad cos I'd rather be alive and sad than dead and cool.
Oo that sounds like a rant but it isn't, sorry. I can't be bothered to reword it so it doesn't sound like a rant. |

I just bought one - not yellow, but bright red with silver reflective stripes and Girlie_Biker on the back. I bought it mainly as during the winter on these dark roads every little thing helps.
I've had a fantastic amount of feedback so far, lots of bikers asking where I got it and where they can get one... _________________ ZZ-RAWR!

As I was acting as tail-end Charlie last weekend in France I kept my very hi-vis jacket on. This was to make it easier for everyone to see that we were all still together, and it worked as the leaders said it was much easier. Jo did the same and it was certainly easier to see which way she had gone when she was leading.
I know they were actually looking, but I think it proves that you are are more likely to be seen, so I think there is some benefit. I do wear it when the weather is murky or wet, but certainly wouldn't want to all the time.
One issue is that if some wear them then drivers start to look only for the jacket, no jacket, nothing there, pull out .....
Also, the Health and Safety Police start to insist that they are compulsory, much like wearing crash hats on push-bikes (their favourite at the moment). _________________ So many roads, so little time. |

A place called Red Oak Direct in Cumbria. Standard text is about £1.50 and reflective text is £2.95. Carriage is £4.95 so it pays to get a couple at the same time. There's a link to them from my website. Tell em I sent ya!
I'm basically wearing it all the time just now but mainly as we're heading into winter and the days and nights are that much darker (also I'm too lazy to carry it in my bag in the morning and put on in the evening....) _________________ ZZ-RAWR!

This has been a common thread in biking for ages.... Basically Hi Vis doesn't keep you safe.
The idea is fairly sound but there are two very important points to remeber....
One is car drivers "don't look" more often than "don't see" so it makes scant difference what you wear.
The second is that your aim in wearing Hi Viz is to stop the camoflage effect... This can be achieved in otherways, like moving side to side within your lane. Best thing to take the appropriate action for the conditions you are riding in...
Ie solo in thick fog Hi Viz is probably good.... but against a bright setting sun it may make you disappear so may not be appropriate.

IMHO - they are a terrible fashion accessory.
Apart from that, I had a woman in a carpark nearly knock me off at 5mph - staring straight at me! No hope @ 150. _________________ If the phone doesn’t ring, it’s me... |
