Toying with the idea of a Boxhill trip out to the Swiss Alps
Looking to do most of the highest passes in the Swiss Alps over a one to two week period late Aug early Sept. Quite fancy ending up in the Italian Dolomites as well.
Pretty informal and you can do your own thing when out there if you like.
Could do it in 2007 but might make it 2008, so it does not clash with the Ticklers trip to France
Who would be up for it
This map gives a clue to what it's like from the air.
http://map.search.ch/gletsch.en.html
and this is what it's like from the road
I would deffo take the bikes on a trailer again but as I say it's informal, travel in a group or make your own way, it does not matter. |

Make hay while the Sun hasn't blown up, I say. 2008 is a bit far for me to plan for. _________________ If the phone doesn’t ring, it’s me... |

Selfishly voted for 2008 as pennies won't allow for me to do it in 2007 as well as the French Tickler trip _________________

Looks Stunning but as Roughie said 2007 not an option for us rely, 2008 is very tempting though and has my vote |

Guppy, why, in your avatar, are you carrying such a large rucksack on your back for carrying such a small person? |

Had to vote for 2008 as well. Should be racing again next season, but perhaps not the year later. A trip like this sounds awesome. _________________ Its better to regret something you did rather than something you didnt do... |

I'd happily tag along on this one. 2008 would be preferable though 2007 is kinda booked up with weddings and things. |

Congratulations?
Tusky.... Quick question... when you and Madam have done this trip, you've taken the bikes by trailer, would you be planning to ride bikes there or trailer/van them there? _________________

Just a suggestion here, if there are a few going, its probably best to take a support vehicle. A van would be ideal as it could carry luggage, tools etc etc. Repatriate a bike if all goes amiss somewhere. Worth thinking about for a group rideout of that distance. _________________ Its better to regret something you did rather than something you didnt do... |

Trailer for me every time but looking at the bigger picture where.......
Those that want to ride there can
Those that want to hoon can
Those that want to have days off can
Those that want to camp can
Those that want a dorm in a hostel can
Those that want their own room can
Those with only a week to spare can
Those with 2 - 3 weeks can
In other words I am looking at a two or three centre break, where peeps can all mix in there preferred accommodation and where budgets are kept to a sensible level i.e. £20 per night each + ferry + food + fuel etc.
Chuffster's idea of a support van is excellent, just a scenario but the theory would be that the cars & trailers, vans or caravans could be left at Lauterbrunnen, this would be the first/main base and is 650 miles from here but is an easy run if you do the French tolls £30 it only takes me 10 hours with a trailer from Callais
There is a full week of amazing riding from Lauterbrunnen (you have seen the photos) and those with only a week to spare could do this part of the tour and head home.
Others with more time could do the same week and then head for the Dolomites and Italian Lakes etc.
To be honest 150 - 200 miles a day is ample when you are doing the passes and you need to factor in wet days, that been said one of the best days was chasing the sun on soaking wet roads where the tyres stuck like glue amazing |
