At the moment I cycle to work (1.5 miles each way) and the company I work for is moving to Felbridge (16 miles each way) so I thought about buying another bike to travel to work on. I don't fancy using the 996 in all weather, and don't fancy using the Blandit on frosty mornings as some of the journey will be on iffy back lanes. My plan is to have a Trail/Supermoto type bike as it won't do much damage if I come off, but what, as I don't have much cash that is not tied up at the moment. Do I .............

1. Second hand trail bike for about £500 and do a bit of work on it.

2. Chinese import 200cc Trail bike £600 (like the one with the snapping suspension linkage).

3. Suzuki DRZ400SM £3,899 £1 deposit and 3 years interest free credit.

NB. If I choose option 3 I could have lots of fun at the weekend.

16 miles, you can still cycle!

Personally, I would go for the DRZ.

I would go for the 200 cheapie as the weigh difference means the difference of saving a slip on a 200 compared to dropping a slip on a 400 and if ya Do drop the cheapie its not gonna be too heart breaking Wink

I'm with SlapheadBandit - I would go the cheaper route especially if you use it through winter. If you can afford the DRZ then go ahead - Spoil yourself

avoid the chinease imports, you will regret it.

Get a second hand SM, wont hurt so much if you drop it and will be far more reliable.

what ever you do, avoid the shitty imports.

If you want fun at the weekend and all winter, go for a trailbike. 250's seem to be the best size for this. Having had one before, I can vouch for them being a blast on the road. Knobbly tyres seem good in the dry, but are not lots of fun in the wet when it comes to tarmac. The DRZ is a nice option, but, if you are going to green lane, have no/limited experience?, then I would not go new.

I went for the trailbike option. Bought a klr650 tengai. Not as light as a 250, but still alot lighter than say a bandit. The standard fairing on mine offers some weather protection.
