If u could have ONE set of luggage for a week away - what would you take, and WHY?

Obviously the answer is white transit van with petrol, tyres, beer, GPS, food, etc. but I need to know concensus on the poll options.

I've opted for panniers but you should post more info as to what the week away involves, as when I go away it normally involves camping so I need to take all the kit for that, if I was hotelling it possibly just a rucksac

what is this, desert island disks? Wink why only one?

But if i had to choose, soft paniers, i think they'd upset the bike the least..

Tankbags are good, but if you try to get as much in as a pair of paniers you'll be resting your chin on it...

Rucksack isn't going to get as much in either and a heavily loaded tailpack, bad as a pillion!

But the proper answer has got to be, paniers, rucksack and tankbag Wink

It has to be soft (expandable) panniers. As Jam said, everything else results in too much weight up top affecting the handling the most.

I took panniers and a tank bag on the French Tickler last year. The tank bag was mostly empty except for essentials and valuables, but it was convenient when I needed a nap on the slog back up the péage!! Shocked

I voted for panniers because you can get more in them. However, I would definitely definitely get a tank bag as well because you can put a map in the top and you can use it to keep all the bits and bobs such as your wallet and phone and any other stuff you might need to get to close to hand. Some tank bags unzip from the bike mounting bit and underneath have rucksac straps, which means you don't have to leave it on the bike.

start with panniers and expand as the journey required so the bigger the outing the more luggage i would add.
I.E next would be a tank bag...then a rucksack .....then anyother stuff behind me on the saddle or tail piece tied down with bungees.
Not a fan of tail packs

Laughing behind hand

I've voted for Topbox.
If your going to be carrying your gear round with you, what better way to keep SAFE and DRY than in a top Box.
I have a Givi rack and Box.Once brackets are fitted, four bolts undone and box and rack are taken off the bike and stored in garage.(the brackets are hardly visible)Then the reverse if i need to put box back on for shopping trip etc Cool
With a tank bag for all your docs, camera, wallet, pack of .......sweets Wink

it has to be panniers. Very big panniers.

Plus ...a stuff sack of some variety packed into one of the panniers, so that on the way back you can decant your kit into the stuff back ..its all mucky now so sack needn't even be waterproof (so long as your camera/phone are wrapped in plastic bags Wink ...that leaves your panniers nice n empty for all that lovely cheap alcohol!!! Usual friday night
