Who would like this as a Members Only Section.

It will mainly be on Road Traffic Related issues, such as what are the guidlines and legal standing re plates or tyre pressures etc etc

It will also go ino other matters that are criminal related, i.e if you need help as to what to do about reporting or lack of help with your investigation or what to do if you find yourself in a situation etc etc.........

It will not cover Civil Matters unless i hear from anyone that has knowledge and experience in this field.

One thing to be made clear is that it will not be advice that a solicitor may offer but an opinion or guidance re your problem.....................................

Please vote................. the poll will run for seven days to allow members time to see the thread.

As this is a serious issue i'll ask that it not be spammed Laughing

Yes, Matt but would have to be VERY VERY VERY clear that opinions/advice would not be admissable in front of Judge Judy, as you have stated. K

Can see exactly why you say too much margin for error, but if you take some of the things that are said on here from peeps giving opinions after taking Gin and Tonic advice from a friend that had a friend that............

I'm talking about the letter of the law, the Section 59 notices as a classic, the new updated highway code, size of plates and requirements, you Craig would have a good and valuable input into this re mot thingymajigs. I can only tell peeps when its an offence or that if x,y and z isn't sorted it soon will be!

As said it would not be legal advice but will let people know what the law is and requirments to comply with it, i was not talking about giving people ways and means of avoiding the law, i feel that as a biking community that it is only right and proper that things are done correctly and as stated this is what this section is going to be, again i'll repeat its not legal advice of what to say in court!

absolutely m8 but all it needs is for 1 person to slightly misunderstand something I or you have said and then get it wrong or even for them to say " well Craig said it would be ok" or similar and all hell would break loose

just covering me arse m8 Smile

Yep agreed on that fella, i'm talking the letter of the law and not its interpreatation i.e a plate has to be x size with y font to comply, a visor has to have blah blah blah.

Surely 100% of legal stuff regarding road traffic, construction and use etc etc is already freely available on the interweb!
Otherwise its "I've got knicked for so and so....." which the likes of yourself couldn't really comment on as you've only had one side of the story., so to speak.
I'd say your going to make a rod for your own back thats gonna cause a bit of grief. So I'm going to vote nay

Matt,Martyn,Dr Lurve, inci and all others that allow us to openly ask questions and answer them to the best of thier ability with the trust that we will not lead them into any compramising positions are all way way too nice a bunch of guys to bring the "shitstorm" down upon thenselves but id like to say thanks for the thought guys.
my thoughts are leave as is and use the privacy route of individuals approaching you so you may use your descretion to act dumb should you feel the need.

I voted yes on the basis that if this is for members only, then lurkers could not use it and may be encouraged to join the site to use the useful bits

Jolly good idea (the word Lordy didn't fit in... Wink ) but with sticky labels all over the place that any advice proferred by anyone is not 'legal advice' just personal opinion and therefore should not be relied on.

I agree that the legal stuff is available all over th'Interweb, but how easy is it to actually FIND the regulation is for Controlled Parking Zones, and the right section of the Road Traffic Act and the right diagramme that goes with it? Nah, didn't expect hands to go shooting up for that one! The "specialists" might at least be able to point to the right place or quote the exact words and often that's what is needed - "The Law like wot it is ritt" rather than what someone thinks is "The Law". Once I got to read the regulations, interpretation after that would be my own responsibility.

I don't mind giving my opinion on certain matters if it could help peeps out, or give peeps a better understanding of something there not sure of.

It is quite apparant on various threads that people think that they know the law when actually they have been misguided, wether that be by 'MCM' or other similar toilet paper. Or the worst one of all 'a mate of mine said.......'.

If I can help out, i will

But the point of having a legal section is so that peeps can have a look see, it would be enlightening for all and a good place for it to be. It just gets lost in the General Off Topic Chat.
The thread about the withdrawal of hand held speed detection devices is so out of context and would be ideal for it to be in this section, i have no qualms in posting up the ACPO guidelines for the use of them, but do you understand what this actually means in practise, a good place for it to be explained!

WD came up with a link, but to be honest i think that most would not want to have to be joining other sites when it could be answered here! It may not be answered straight away but at least some on here will know where to go to find it and be able to give advice on that situation!

It also adds another dimension to the forum and if it doesn't work out it can always be axed!

For the legal thread, a sticky at the top containing useful links would be handy. I can provide some Civil links, having needed to use them myself in the past.

Bullcrap - if no one did anything "wrong" no one would need a disclaimer.
