Being so specific about where he might have done this speed was a bit stupid. However, it looks like he did this in a Veyron which to be fair, is designed to go at such a speed and stop extremely quickly. Unlike a Nova with neons, which is dangerous at any speed.
I don't think he should be sacked anyway.

Apparently 120 odd on 2 wheels is quite feasible there, more so if your plate has "fallen off" Laughing Not me

Sounds like he was just bullshitting.

When she asked him about driving the super car, Clarkson said: "I got a great speeding ticket. I think it was 186 in the Limehouse Link. Well, somebody did. Obviously it might not have been me."

When asked to clarify the incident, he replied: "No, no - there's too many hacks in here to go any deeper into that."

Limehouse Link is only about a mile and a quarter long and if he had got a ticket he would be in prison. A trifle stupid and insensitive however.

Reminds me of this:-

The News of the World 'sting' in May 1999 that got a naive and champagne-fuelled Dallaglio to boast - emptily, he later insisted, to the RFU's satisfaction - of his cocaine use, and led to his loss of the England captaincy

Clarkson is a wind-up merchant par excellence - when will people realise this.
If he had been doing that speed, and had received a speeding ticket, he would have lost his licence as a result, and as he appears not to have lost his licence, it's obviously his "little joke".
I applaud him for it..... applause

I remember the accident at Pyecombe - it was caused by a load of chavs from Crawley going too fast in an old BMW.
Rather different methinks.

Ah, I dont think he should be sacked.

After all, it would be hypocritical for any of us to say that - I know Ive seen big speeds akin to that on the road.

I think if he was serious then he was stupid and naive given his and most of the population's knowledge of the behaviours of press rats and their individual missions to sell their souls for 5 minutes of fame. Shocked

I am sure he will get another job at the drop of a hat anyway and sods law says that like with other decent TV slots these days, we will have to pay to see him somewhere else and no doubt the rest of his gang as they desert the programme to work with him again before the ship sinks after his departure. I agree - Limehouse Link isn't long enough so he's bullshitting.

Disagree that he should be sacked for his claimed speeding. Like WD says, situation is totally different.

However, guy's an @r$e so he should be sacked for that!

That's a very good point...

I can understand someone who has lost someone close and dear in an accident changing their perspective on speed/speeding... Speed isn't dangerous in itself, it's the lack of respect of speed that's the problem.

In 10 years time will speeding be as socially unacceptable as not wearing a seatbelt or drink driving?

they are spouting that now to try and make us all believe that is the common consensus.
personally, i hate speeding in a straight line as it does nothing for me. doesn't mean to say i think it's anti-social. just not my cuppa.

I think speeding will always be socially unacceptable. But i think you are right about it being the lack of respect of speed that is the problem

How many times has everyone seen some some rep in a BMW hurtling up the BMW lane right up someones chuff and though to yourself 'what a what a w***er'

Or how many times have you see a zit faced 18 your old chav driving up the high street at mack 10 in his VW Nova XR2 GT trying to impress his dopey girlfriend. Have you thought to yourself "wow, he is so good being able to drive like that at that speed, especially with his seat reclined all the way back like that". Or have you thought "CNUT"
