Not really pissed me off, but saddens me a little.

This time last year there were many people who changed their picture to a poppy, or something rememberance day related. This year hardly anyone has bothered. For what I can see it's only Bob, Suzi, Roughie and me that can be arsed this year.

Also, out on the street as well, there used to be people wearing poppies everywhere, but now if you look around there are hardly any at all.

Is the mark of respect diminishing? In a few years time, will no-one know what a poppy is or stands for.

This isn't a rant, I just think it's really sad Sad

Agree and disagree

I think a lot of people chose not to change their avatars this year (myself included) because it worked brilliantly last year and to do it again could be seen as just following the others... rather than being a true mark of respect....

I've got my poppies and support the cause, even more so after touring some of the D Day landing beaches and military cemeteries last June. We're not worthy

Confused

I don't get that Confused

Surely that's the whole idea, that it is done once a year around rememberance day.

Yes it is...... but does it cheapen the occasion if people click their mouse, buy a poppy or whatever and then forget all about it the following week?

When I was young I had no real interest in the wars, British Legion or what went on before me.... as I get older I have gained far more of an insight and appreciation of what has been done for the greater good....

Just a different perspective that's all Wink

Another POV:

Ever thought that perhaps people have their own way of dealing with it? And that it may not be YOUR way?

In the same way that I don't necessarily give coins to the tin people outside Sainsbury's or in the High street, but I sponsor many friends/colleagues for charity events each year and go in the trouble of sorting out unwanted items, ie clothes, toys, etc, to give to charity shops, school locally.

Displays (cards, ribbons, badges, etc) are just not me, I'd rather be more concrete and 'act'.

I also do it another way.

Each to their own.

Those people died for freedom, freedom of expression being just one example.

I feel a rant coming on, so, I will not say what I want to say.

All I will say, is that I will be throwing some money into the tin and wearing a poppy with pride. That is MY way

I shall say no more on the matter

Hey, don't get your knickers in a twist. All I was saying is that you shouldn't be sad about it as you mentionned in your original post, because I think people ARE thinking of others and being charitable, just perhaps not in the way you expect. Tis all Smile

I've chucked money in to more than one tin and have a poppy. Just because I haven't changed my avatar on a, with all due respect, a very small forum doesn't mean I'm not supporting the poppy appeal.

I'd suggest you stop pontificating as you're spoiling the whole thing.
