I am so glad you asked that question!!!!!
A couple of times recently I have been told that clutchless changes are less damaging and stressful on the engine/'box. I honestly don't see it myself, and would love to know the mechanic's view on this.
FWIW no I don't clutchless change at all, ever. |

Oh boy.........you noobs won't know of the fuss this kicked off a few years ago on here.
Suffice it to say, up the box if it feels right.
Down the box only if you know what you're doing.

Clutch from first to second then clutchless. Normally use clutch on the way down though. I can relate to Losts comment about a snapped cable and pulling away. You wanna try it 2 up! Not impossible, just bloody awkward! _________________ The lunatics have finally taken over the asylum |

I used to do clutchless upshifts (like wildman said after 1st/2nd). I did a couple of downshifts but I couldn't realy get the feel of it and the bike didnt feel happy so I stopped! _________________

And me. Always clutchless up, and have for years. Usually use the clutch on the way down, especially on twins, they dont seem to like it. Never had any gearbox issues on any of my bikes, but then I suppose they dont tend to last that long.....!!!! _________________ Its better to regret something you did rather than something you didnt do... |

Had to on the Blandit if I wanted to get anywhere in a hurry, most of the time up, sometimes down. I do now and again on the ZRX but I'm still getting used to it, lots of false neutrals to catch you out on those faint of foot gear changes especially down a gear as a tight corner approaches! _________________ It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes. - Douglas Adams.

Sometimes I do when I remember, going up is easy when giving it large. Down the box is not so good, possibly as it's a twin so prefer the clutch then. So used to using the clutch it's hard to change habits. _________________ Comfortably Numb
