Speaking to a 'customer' at work today who said he had just seen 'The Karate Kid' at the cinema. I asked him if it was better than the original.

He looked at me like I was from a different planet and replied 'what original'.

Up at 6:45, creep downstairs and suit up. Weathers a bit overcast, but it'll be alright. Smile

What is it with bike garages using shitty spray chain lube?

I just went to clean the bike, and the chain is absolutely coated, to a depth of about 1-2mm all over in thick grease (actually looks like molybdenum grease). Hence the swingarm, rear shock and tail end are plastered as well.

Whilst cleaning the crap off I was spinning the back wheel and could actually feel the chain freeing up as the cleaner got to work. Now it's all clean and shiny, and lubed up with good ol' fashioned 80W90 gear oil!

out of interest what's wrong with spray chain lube ? (assuming it's not sprayed all over everywhere), I use a dry lube spray, is that a bad move ?

Nothing wrong with it per se, but the thick snotty stuff seems to trap all the road grit and is a b*tch to clean off, and I have had bad experiences with chain wax in wet weather allowing the chain to go rusty.

About 6 months ago I started using 80W90 gear oil from an oil can, just apply every few days after riding. No black gritty chains, no rust, no mess, and virtually no fling.

Obviously this is just my opinion, and I don't want to open up the whole chain lube debate again Hide behind sofa Laughing

SCOTTOILER!...........While I'm on the subject of my favorite chain lubrication system, does anybody here know if it's possible to use something other than scottoil in the oiler if you've found yourself unable to buy scottoil?
