WMMST:
1. 100 miles of nice roads today (which were bizarrely pretty free of traffic)
2. The weather holding up!!
3. A hot cuppa with a friend followed by a short but fun detour en route home
4. Not too much pain at the mo! _________________ Baby Biker Babe!

Yeah..the traffic was pretty light today wasn't it?
We went down to Rye and Camber to meet Megawatt and the only bit of hold up traffic was on Camber bends which was a shame as I love that road.
Megawatt is a lucky man as he uses that road to ride to work.......Man...I would love that _________________ Teamwork makes the Dreamwork! |

Farings off....
Carbs off, exhausts off, rad off, etc etc... drink beer... remove rear wheel withdraw shaft.... ooer.
Hoist engine out... curse and swear at the f*cking generator.
Wheel out of the way... transfer lifting stuff onto other engine and...
fit replacement mill, refit all the removed stuff... fill up with oil and coolant... sit back, light your pipe and admire your handywork
Thanks to...

Nice one Duncy......
BTW, what's the 'book' time for engine out and replace?
And yes, those alternators can be a biatch. I removed mine first, and replaced once the engine was back in. |

No idea... I expect it's at least 8-10 hours each way including all fairings etc.

Think the problem here is the later Pan as per your old barge and mine is that the alternator is physically bigger than the earlier ones.
Certainly a lot of it was much easier this time round having previously done it... Talking to the chaps at Dobles yesterday the location of the crack on mine is not unheard of... quite what caused it then I don't know... I'd attributed it to weak antifreeze and a hard frost, but maybe not then?? _________________

Aye, 'tis true. They upped the output from something like 40amps to 60 amps (or something like that) and that meant the unit was appreciably larger.

What I meant to add to that, is that with the later larger one I don't think they modified the frame design to make the removal/installation of the alternator any less knuckle scrapy _________________
