Ive been finding myself making excuses not to ride. Too hot, too cold, too wet, got to move the car, to much faffing with gear to justify a short trip, no time, too busy, too tired, doing up a house, gardening etc.

I have been riding since I was 17 and I am 52 now. Loads of bikes and thousands of miles.

I need a biking boot up the arse to make me ride more again .

Suggestions?

Over my head. Possibly a bit thick (or too old).

What does that mean. (I Googled it first, they are as baffled as I am!!)

Maybe you need a bike that excites you more and feels less overkill for shorter rides? The BMW is a big old beasty...

This year has been an odd one, and tbh I've had a bit of weather induced riding apathy of late.

I miss my Tuono. Mine was mostly reliable so never hasd to do surgery like Moriwaki.

Scatty Mares brother is selling a CCM R30, WP suspension, carbon bling etc.

Might be the answer.

Or a classic old Brit (had a few in the past). Or I have never had a cruiser, we could both ride a Diavel (Scatty test rode one recently)

I agree about the Big Beast of a BMW. Great for crossing continents, no good for a blast round the samll roads.

I agree with Biggus on this one, a new toy is always a good excuse to go for a ride. Something nice and lightweight that performs well on our less than perfect roads, and that you don't have to be precious about.

I've almost given it up too. Pretty pointless riding for recreation on the road now. Too many idiots not looking etc. I've noticed, since the weather has dried, that there are no end of wankers on two wheels.

Spoils it for everyone as it puts plod on the lookout. Talking to a guy on the job he commented that there are a couple of spots locally that the plod parkup and tug the likely looking looking lads on bikes. Last weekend was a quota filling weekend apparently.

I go sailing more often that not now, well I would if I could move.......

I agree, new bke is the answer. Was feeling the same untill the Tiger came along and now I can't stop riding whatever the weather. It helps that it's so good on shitty potholed country lanes, which is most of the roads round here now!

Even though I now have 3 bikes in the garage, one of which is a lovely machine, I'm blowing hot and cold on riding at the moment.
Can't quite put my finger on it, but apathy seems about right!

I enjoy really early runs like Wivvy's, and some of the evening runs with NinjaBob. But it's still an effort to get out.

When you have finished with NR your boot is needed round here.

Perhaps it's not the riding...... Just the company you keep Laughing

On years when I am doing a tour on the continent, I don't feel the need to clock up loads of miles on UK roads... Like anything, including socialising you feel like you have to drag you arse to get there but once you are there you feel full of energy and love it Very Happy

I blame the recession Wink

Its been a lousy year weather-wise which doesn't help.
The main reason I've just signed up here is to try & find more people to ride out with. Its always better when out riding with a mate.

Dunno what bike you have but maybe go for something more comfortable, chose nice routes where the idiots aren't & where the old bill aren't hiding everywhere, that works for me.

I tend to stay away from boxhill because all the rds have been nannied & old bill everywhere spoils my enjoyment.
