Went up to Neil's, NAPA121, today to service his FZ1.
Here he is drinking petrol;

and his first view of a camshaft.

Well just wanted to say a big thanks Megawatt Cool

I'm certainly not saying that I'm now a motorcycle mechanic that's for sure but i have learnt sooo much in the couple of days we have spent servicing the bike that I feel very confident in at least doing basic stuff which is exactly what I wanted. We also serviced the bike and I now know that it has been done properly.

As we discovered, the dealer would have charged us for the 24000 mile valve clearance check but probably wouldn't have even checked it let alone actually have changed the shims like we did...A very cool way to spend the day Cool

Cheers buddy

A bit more involved with 20 valves Jay. The shims finally arrived a day late, yesterday, Neil got today off work and I left home at 0645. Woke Neil up, had a brew and bacon butty and then set to work.

New shims installed on top of valves.

Buckets checked for lack of shims and refitted.

Crank position rechecked.

Exhaust cam reinstalled.

All done in record time by Neil. Top job mate
