Is my alternator on my 1200 Bandit producing to much charge voltage at 14.5v idling and rising to 15v when given some revs.my battery seems to need replacing after only 16 months.I was advised that the regulator could need replacing, as its part of the Alternator i tried the cheap option of fitting a secondhand Alternator but the charge voltages stayed the same.2 duff regulators?
Please advise Thanks.

Alternator output, between each pair of yellow wires , should be around 75volts. When plugged into reg/rec , check voltage at battery with engine running. Should be around 15volts. With engine stopped , battery voltage should be around 13.8volts.

I'm with x2 Smile

Double check with another volt meter in case yours is inaccurate just in case, but likely to be reg/rec from the description.

Does the battery get hot or smell?

Checked with another multimeter and voltage is the same the Battery is not getting hot or smelling. Its probably that i bought a cheap crap battery last time, As suzuki main dealer agree with Megawatt 15v is within the limits so ive replaced battery with a Bosch one and im going to run with as is.
new reg is £180 from suzuki and alternator is 700!!!!
Anybody want to buy a secondhand alternator Smile .

Keep an eye on the reg/rec output volts mate. If they go over 15/16volts, replace r/r with a pattern one for about £60 I think. Any way you could fit a voltmeter ?

Shocked
Practically Aprilia prices ! For future reference, West Country Windings will re-wire an alternator for about £150.
