Question from a colleague of mine fed up with "The dick heads who scream down my road in Epsom at stupid MPH"
Before anyone gets on their high horse, Ian is a reformed biker
His question is...
What is more difficult to control, the 150+horses on tap or yourself..

I've never had a bike with more than 133bhp at the back wheel, so I don't know. _________________ It's all down to quality of life ! |

Bit of both for me really, not used to the blade yet so control is a major issue. TBH it seems a bit flighty to be ridden sensibly on the road _________________ Trackdays.................... Because golf is for faggots! |

Well I probably could control the horses, but hey, I like life in the fast lane so would have to yank it and crank it. And you don't need 150+ horses to be a hooligan
For me, I can behave, and at times I do try. then something happens, the red mist comes down, and I am off , take it thats the natural born racer in me _________________ Its better to regret something you did rather than something you didnt do... |

The question should be "How often do you use all the horsepower?"
I bet half the time 98% of riders use less than half the power on tap. Its all about selfcontrol.......... |

My bike has only 59bhp. I try not to speed yet I often can't resist so I'm guessing the same would be true on a 150bhp bike, although I've never ridden one. Let's face it, the bike doesn't go anywhere by itself and a 150bhp bike will go at 30mph if the rider rides it at that speed, the same as any other bike will. |

Not sure what the ninja is but there's no way I'll ever be able to ride my bike to its limit without spending the rest of my life on a track! Tis a confidence thing too, however, the bike has much more get up and go than the firestorm and it's sometimes difficult to resist blipping the throttle when perhaps I shouldn't. _________________ Mini Cooper S |

Not ridden 150bhp myself, but the 133 2007 R6 was great fun... didn't feel remotely uncomfortable riding it
I think a 200bhp machine is a bit of a different matter, specially when it gets down to 170kg |

My Rocket is a gentle controllable lady if you want it to be...I don't think I have ever had a problem ( except stopping is a bit of an art if you don't want to sound like hawaii 50. ( ask your parents about tyre sqealing ).

My Blackbird was around 150 bhp..on the motorway it was so easy to do silly speed with out even trying. guess that qualifies as rider and bike at fault. _________________

Yourself - the more power the smoother you need to ride especially in poor conditions. _________________ "Those who understand compound interest are destined to collect it.

Well.... I guess this is one way of letting the nanny state government know that they will need to limit the power of bikes. It would seem that some of us are not able to control ourselves!

The question should be split into two parts really:
- Do you have the self control to resist trying to use that level of power in a bike (on the road)
- Do you have the ability to actually control that level of power in a bike
Either way, it still comes down to the person riding the bike to know when and where to attempt to use that power, and to have the finesse and feel to be able to control it. _________________ Don't wait for your ship to come in .. torpedo it out of the water and move on to the next target |
