I use Biopact custom made earplugs - some waffle about earplugs:-
Motorcyclists are constantly exposed to high levels of noise caused predominantly by the wind. Apart from being uncomfortable and tiring high noise levels can permanently damage the hearing mechanism.
Measurements taken by the Occupational Health and Safety Service show that at a speed of 50mph the sound level under the helmet is over 90 decibels. Speed has a significant effect on the sound level the rider is exposed too. For each 12mph increase in speed, the intensity of the sound is doubled. This means that at just over 60mph the rider is exposed to approximately the same level as a circular saw operator who would not be allowed by law to operate the equipment without the mandatory use of hearing protection.
Noise induced hearing loss is permanent and irreversible. Adequate protection of the hearing mechanism is as important as the use of a helmet and leathers. Conventional foam and wax earplugs can be a solution but are often uncomfortable to wear and isolate the rider from his surroundings too much. Alternatively if not inserted properly they provide little or no protection.
Custom made hearing protection provides an individual and unique fit for the user allowing guaranteed levels of protection and comfort.
Research resulted in a special earpiece that cut out no more sound than was necessary to ensure the right amount of protection. Constructed from a soft durable medical grade silicone.
The concept of any custom made item is its individuality and uniqueness to its user.
Each pair being individually crafted under the strictest conditions from exact impressions of the users' ears. The durability of our product will provide years of use (most users replace after four years) - a small price to pay to guarantee the protection of your most important senses.
Q - How much noise can a person tolerate?
The strength of a sound is determined by the pressure of the sound waves and is expressed in decibels: dB(A). dB(A) measurements are corrected to the sensitivity of the human ear. The quietest audible sound is 0dB(A). The threshold of pain is at 120 dB(A)
Sound pressure
Each time the sound level is increased by 3dB, the intensity of that sound is doubled (i.e., it is twice as loud). Each time you double the sound intensity, the safe listening time is halved. The louder the sound, the sooner the chance of permanent hearing damage _________________ "Those who understand compound interest are destined to collect it.

Top bit of info Bob, just to pick up on a point, wearing ear plugs slows down fatigue caused by wind noise which has to be as good a reason as any to wear them.
Some peeps say they do not wear them in town and i understand why you may wish not to, but how far are you travelling to get to town! Seems like a chicken and egg syndrome, best off getting there more alert than relying on what damaged hearing you have left to save you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Personally my eyes are the biggest assets in keeping it rubber side down! _________________ Speed Limits are Minimums and remember Opinions are like arseholes, everyone has one

This is who I used. Had the impressions done at the IAM's Wheel Women day last spring - took about 10 minutes. They then manufactured the plugs in my choice of colour (red, so as not to be mistaken for a buildup of ear wax ) and mailed them to my house a few weeks later.
I imagine they'll be at the NEC show. Failing that, you can arrange to have them come to you. See the "Ordering" tab on their website:
