There has been alot of 'bitching' and little comments on here recently about coppers standing in bushes with speed guns.
Has someone been done recently? Have I missed something.
It would be interesting to see who has been stopped and given a ticket for speeding in this way or whether it is just people jumping on a media led bandwagon for no reason!!!!!
I am talking about BEING STOPPED BY A COPPER WITH A SPEED GUN. Not a fixed council Gatso camera or a mobile camera van.
If you have, when was it and where? |

28th September 1983, 8.30am on the B2110 Hartfield (outside Old Crown Farm), heading towards Forest Row. I was doing 43mph in a 30mph. Can't remember what the fine was, but received 3 points. Nice policeman was crouching beside a hedge, then jumped out on me ! _________________ It's all down to quality of life ! |

No but I have seen a lot of roadside checks lately. Having said that, I think a lot of people get the ANPRS cameras confused with Speed check vans.
Busiest police I've seen lately has been the 2 in an unmarked blue (5series??) on the A3 driving up and down (so it seems ) from Tolworth to the M25. _________________ It's not the speed of life that bothers me, it's the sudden stop at the end!

I was talking to the local Box Hill bobby the other week who on occasions monitors speed & nicks people with the aid of a hairdrier; generally they pull a lot more cars than bikes, although they did Radar a bike doing 103mph through the 40limit on the A29 in Ockley, when I asked if they got his plate the answer was "no they were going too damn fast..." "hmmm 103 you say " _________________

Not sure why but I really give some respect to villages in the country, just like Ockley, and keep the speed legal, and although I've never been passed by a bike in Ockley, I am often passed by the car I've recently passed in the NSL bit approaching the village where they were doing 45-50 mph and I was doing....well, a bit more. Maybe they think the limit doesn't apply to them as they're such safe drivers. _________________ It's not the speed of life that bothers me, it's the sudden stop at the end!

I clicked no, because I've never met a copper with a hairdryer.
I've had 4 speeding fines though all since I got my Scooby and never on the bike, although I do the same speeds. 2 by mobile vans, 1 a fixed gatso (rear) and 1 fixed forward.
I deserved all 4:
2001 - 38 in a 30 back roads of Wokingham (fixed gatso - thought the limit was 40 because of where it was, £30 fine, 3 points)
2003 - 109 on the A11 dual-carriageway (camera van on a bridge, £450 fine, 2 week ban, no points)
2004 - 86 in a 70 on the A322 dual-carriageway (camera van parked in the wood, £60 fine, 3 points) (like Miss V was going to collect my wedding dress and my daughter had made me late)
2006 - 58 in a 50 on a dual-carriageway up near Silverstone, forward facing camers (£60 fine, 3 points) _________________ We are all born mad. Some remain so. ~ Samuel Beckett 1906-1989 |

September 1999 on the A23 between Merstham villiage and Redhill. 46 in a 30 . 3 points . My only problem with this is that it was a national speed limit area until about 2 years before, living locally I know that it is not in anyway an accident blackspot just a revenue gathering exercise.
I don't have a problem with the idea of reducing speed, what i can't accept is the idea of catching out motorists to raise revenue. I think that's the problem Matt. |
