Based on an idea of Slappy's, PJDJ's recent comments and someone elses post (I can't find it now), I am thinking of having a go at organizing an afternoon out to somewhere where we can all chill for the afternoon, enjoy some food and each others company.

If we can find a private field and want to go big time, perhaps even ask PJDJ or some other musos on here to provide some musical entertainment. A sort of Boxstock!

The idea to is to start to get the forum back to one big happy family! Laughing

The ride down can either be one long conger (not my ideal) or be split into two or three groups (Wobbler, Inters, Lunatics) but we all end up in the same place. Cars and kids would also be welcome.

It will take some work and may require someone in a car to take the food down. I suggest a small team of three get together to organize, plan routes, identify a venue, food, drink etc. I am thinking of not the coast but perhaps a hill with a view so we are not caught up with the world and their suitcase.

Rather than each preparing our own food, I am thinking of getting some cheap caterers to make up a few sandwiches etc. If that is very costly due to numbers, there may be a small contribution needed (capped at say £ 7.50) to help cover my costs. Alternatively perhaps some of the more culinary people here would get together to sort this aspect out.

Before taking this on, however,I would like to see what appetite there is for this.

Can you please click one of the poll buttons with your thoughts. No need to post a comment unless you have something constructive to add.

There are always farmers and the like with fields looking to make a quick buck letting people use their fields.. some friends of mine decided to go for a road trip, didnt bother booking anywhere to stay, found a farmers house and paid him to let them pitch up tents in his field..

Yikes, this is growing quickly, from a picnic to a hog roast and night out. Finding the private field is the first step!

9 yesses is not yet enough so this will run for 10 days and will come to a conclusion then.

Boudicas and Phoenix, thanks for the offer to help and may well take you up on that. I would like a female involved too so that we include their thoughts and wishes (such as how much washing up liquid do we need to bring, is there a place to plug in an ironing board Laughing (Hide behind sofa)

I sometimes head off on bike and pick up food from Waitrose or similer and head to Newlands etc to sit and watch the sun go down Cool

Field, good idea...
perhaps even a campsite so we have water & loos? (dependent on cost)
Used to go to a site in Pevensey that had a basic field & was close to the beach (think it is built up with houses now tho)

Scattymare mentioned a field she stopped in near pooh bridge Question Exclamation

Food, there is a butcher in Reigate who hires out hog roast thingy I think
(how much would a pig be?)

Happy to be involved if others think it is a goer (but I dont do ironing) Laughing

Brilliant idea, Baloo! Sounds like just the thing this forum needs.

Would be more than happy to help with any tasks -including nominating Roughie to do the ironing! Laughing If I remember correctly from the last Tickler trip, extreme ironing is one of her passions.

Joking aside, let me know what you want done & when; once I'm back from Cornwall I will have plenty of time to help out.

The camping idea would be great, I've already done quite a few this year on a bike and have another soon.

Would certainly lend a hand as well.

Regards

Wouldn't be up for the camping but picnic sounds good.

When I was at Box late one evening, a group of people on Harleys turned up and had a picnic. They'd each brought something different. Maybe that's an idea Idea

Anyway, if I'm riding my bike again and can help, let me know.

Although I guess I could always resort to the Scooby.

Looked to hire one for my 50th birthday bash..........around £500. Shocked Takes about 7 hours to cook. Keep things simple i'd say, at most take some disposable bbq's.

Yep, £700+ last time I enquired.
