You know how it is..................... it's a cold day, and you want something quick and warming.
You go to the cupboard, and there's the can of tomato soup.
Mmmm, this is going to be good......................................
But it never is.
What is it about tomato soup that is such a let-down? |

Never find it a let down. Love a can of Heinz tomato with a hint of basil. Always put a little bit of chilli powder and black peper in it though.

Prefer my own butter nut squash and parsnip soup....... very tasty
That said..... Heinz tomato with big chunks of fresh baked bread to dunk in it, always appealed to me as a kid _________________ Boxhill Chippendales

I'm abstaining from this vote as I don't really like tomato soup that much, i find it very bland and boring, even with a few drops of worchestershire sauce to spice it up.
My fav soup is Heinz Mulligatawny |

I think that's my point exactly - tomato soup is bland and boring, and never ever tastes of anything remotely like tomatoes. Why should you have to add so many things to it just to give it a bit of taste?
Having said that, the nearest I've found recently is the Tesco version. |

Bloody glad that this didn't end up in the dribble thread now all I need to know is where that smell of sugar puffs is coming from _________________ Boxhill Chippendales

Personally I make my own tomato soup from scratch. Takes a bit longer to
do, but tastes great
Fresh tomatoes, course sea salt, paprika (gives a lovely complex smoky
flavour), herbs, sun dried tomatoes and olive oil. Reduce it in a pot and serve
with hunks of home made break or baguettes. You can also add a dollop of butter if you feel like it
The trick is to peal and remove the pips from the fresh tomatoes before cooking them.

Totally agree with Andjel - homemade everytime! it's a doddle plus you know what's gone into it. _________________ Mini Cooper S |
