Ok guys tell me what you think. Safe or not? I always ride with my headphones on, people tell me its unsafe and irrisponsible but music or not i always ride as safe as i did on my test. Anyway car drivers have music in there cars so loud it deafens pedestrians.

i wouldn't say its unsafe since above 50mph or 5,000rpm i cant really hear much anyway Embarrassed

but car drivers with their huge soundsystems do take the P*ss... and a lot of expensive cars these days take great pleasure in the fact that its virtually silent inside

Personally I can't see its much different to having a bike intercom. A lot of the intercoms have an input for personal stereo!
That and the fact you see a lot of the bike schools using inter bike radio for tutuion purposes. I'd rather listen to some music than an instructor droning on!

Riding with music, speeding, wearing conspicuous clothing, riding while tired....

All of these things just alter how dangerous your riding it. Some of them are illegal too.

If safety is your only concern, then you should drive or walk.

I wouldn't ride with headphones unless it was a really really long (> 5 hour) and boring motorway journey.

If you feel comfortable listning to music when riding, Then I think its ok. Lets face it, its your eyes that are the most important thing when riding/driving. You wouldnt get very far if you tried closing you eyes and using your ears to guide you now. Very Happy
the only thing you might not hear coming is a fire engine or ambulance for example.

that's a risk....but then how can the copper tell u got headphones under the helmet unless he stops you for something else? cause the headphones are concealed in the helmet and the wires are also in the jacket and the mp3 is well tacked away in your inside pocket, that has to be a very clever detective inspector.

exactly biggus, mp3 and ipods normally allows you to play tracks at random on continuos loop so u never need to fiddle with them once u press play. imagine u have 1000 tracks at the average 3 minutes per song that is about 3000 minutes circa .....2 days and a few hours of constantly playing the thing without hearing the same song again....

goddamit i'd run out of fuel before that....

I agree with captmoto there is a massive rush when listenig to rock music on a bike. I might sound like a loose cannon but i know my limits and i know how to calm down when riding, i never put myself or others at risk when riding. I will not be another motorcycle death statistic making biking look dangerous. which is a good thing. don't you lot agree?

Bike versus car - guess which one would come off worse in an accident?

You need all your senses on a bike, especially when you see some off the twats that are allowed behind the wheel of a car. Drivers tend to feel very cocooned and safe in their cars, add to that, they may have their stereos on loud, or be fiddling with the phone, or be talking to their chavvy mates.

If you want to listen to music on the go, it's your choice, but you shouldn't expect sympathy if you have an accident, and you were listening to your MP3.

So, listening to Motorhead "Ace of Spades" whilst riding through traffic isn't going to affect your riding? Shocked
You may know your limits, but do the other drivers around you know that your limits have been compromised?
How can you calm yourself down when listening to rock music - it has the opposite effect! Shocked

Still, as I said before it's your choice - and your life!

well u are all right in a way, and yes it is bad to listen to music and ride a 2 wheeled vehicle.

friday night has however a percentage of 45% dui's drivers as opposed to riders with headphones.
