A follow up to BarryH on http://www.boxhill.co.uk/forum/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=22595 to see how many of you ride as well as drive...

Both, the majority of my miles are in the car now.

The new car had 10,000 miles on it in six months and had to do the first service.

So........86% of bike riders also drive. That makes us our own worst enemy then? Sort of blows a few ideas out of the water.

Had my car license for 19 years (gulp) and bike for nearly 7 years. The car is used for the station run and the bike as a hobby. We are going down to one car and I'm going to SORN mine as a trial.

personally, I didn't realise how bad my driving was (after 20 years with a full car licence) until I started riding a bike and put some of those lessons into practice in the car. definitely made me a better driver.

so, then surely the more interesting statistic (lie?) would be: how many of the car drivers who are involved in collisions with motorcycles also hold bike licences?

It also appears that 1% do something else. Wink

I am guessing but I think that a vast majority of the spills and near misses by the forum members, if we are honest do not involve another car that was at fault. I have certainly run wide on a bend in a least two occassions but no cars were coming in the other direction.

I know at least four others that have done that or similar.
