Hello folks its the same old list as of 2 years or so ago with just a few amendments, it dropped off as a sticky due to Duncan being a tosser so it is back as an announcement, this list was modified for our Spain trip last year and as such some of what you will see is Spain specific but the majority if not all applies. Happy reading - ooh and if you have anything you think needs adding either PM or e-mail me and i will amend the list accordingly and give you the credit, thanks!

Here is a little checklist of things required for your journey - might be a bit sucky eggy for the hardened traveller but there are a few times that i have travelled where someone has forgotten one thing or another, isn't that right Penfold . Yes paperwork and shite like this is boring, but i have had to write it so please read and don't ruin your own trip

1. Passport, please check its in date for this trip asap!

2. European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) that now replaces the old E111 apply here ----> https://www.ehic.org.uk/Internet/home.do

3. Driving Licence - (Both parts if new style)!

4. Certificate of Insurance - (Don't forget to contact your insurer and take the name of whom you informed of this little trip) make sure you tell them that you are travelling Spain. Ask your insurance company about a green card, apparently they no longer exist but just in case, cos we all know what it is like to be handed a foreign insurance certificate!!!!!!!!!

5. Contact numbers for breakdown assistance and policy number,

6. V5 - (Log Book to the older amongst us).

7. Travel Insurance that covers you for motorcycling abroad. I have the Met Fed Insurance Through George Burrows - I spoke with Julie Wheeler at George Burrows 01403327719, she confirmed coverage, speak with Met Fed on Tel 020 8464 2322 for your insurance - £4 a month and covers the whole family as well, bargain!

8. Your Bike manual just in case you need to get at something along with tools including adaptors etc for removing wheels! No not fcuking paddock stands

9. First aid kit. Hein Gericke is one of the cheapest for this, in Spain you need a hi-vis but we are only in there for about 10 to 15 miles as we go back and forward across the border, but you have been warned!

10. Spare Bulbs. Hein Gericke again or http://www.codforum.org.uk/courier-owner-driver-shop-bulbs.php for bulbs (Info from Marmalade)

11. Punctur repair kit. I got mine from here, Hein Gericke may do one, but this link is also good for other bits and bobs and have always been extremely efficient. http://www.motohaus.com/acatalog/Air_Pro.html

12. Euros/Debit and Credit Cards - i'm allowing for about 50 euros a day which is about £40 for lunch dinner and drinks etc........

13. Spare ear plugs

14. Visor cleaning stuff, i suggest the V2 sponge i know a few of us have them and they are superb, i may order some more, it will be about £5 to £6 for two, let me know if your interested!

15. Waterproofs and maybe some winter gloves and neck warmer for when we go into the Pyrenees and the Alps - Just in Case its a tad cold and you haven't got girlie heated grips.

16. Sun Cream - you aint all using mine again. Don't forget Lip Balm, your lips will suffer on this trip!

17. Sunglasses or Tinted Visor or role on the headaches. Be careful with the full on Black visor as we will be passing through tunnels and extremely shaded parts!

18. Travel adaptor and mobile/sat nav charger etc...

19. A security chain between two and disc locks if you have one, lets not make it too easy for the liittle feckers.

20. Shower/Shaving,Toothbrush Kit, make sure you include some paracetemol, antihistamines, antiseptic cream and diaorrhea tablets just in case. Do not bother with a towel!!

21. Spare keys for all you different locks etc and a spare credit card kept sperately with your keys just in case...................

22. Socks, Pants, Tops, Trousers and Shoes for off of the bike as well as socks pants tops and shorts for on it, i would go for a couple of good wicking ones for hot days, i use briko ones but they sell some really cheap ones in Decathlon and are bloody good quality - http://www.decathlon.co.uk/EN/deefuz-1000-mixed-29281044/ Don't forget Swimwear!!

23. GB sticker or euro style no plate for rear of bike.

24. Make sure you have a drink to hand throughout the day - so you may want to take a leak proof bottle!

25. Mobile Phone

26. Camera - batteries for it as well.

27. Please check your bike over for road worthiness, i know we all have relatively new bikes, but just in case, please take into account of how much tyre life you have, a good bit of rubber will have better puncture resistant properties than one down to the limit by the end of the trip, you can always put the old set back on when you return, just something to think about! One bit of Advice, do not get your bike serviced with a few days to go before the trip, i use a very good dealer and even they have fcuked something up which i found a week or so later, not good!

28. Hi vis by law is to be carried in Spain and other EU countries so please check here is a link from Marmalade for some :- http://www.codforum.org.uk/courier-owner-driver-shop-emergency.php

29. Chain Split Link for your size chain! http://motorcycleproducts.co.uk/catalogue/split-link-iris-530-xring-gold-p-9073.html

30. Bike break down insurance the following link was sent to me by Marmalade and a little bit about what you get for the money, thanks Nick:- Breakdown cover for euro, ADAC, german company 77 euros for a year and covers you in the UK as well. Personal membership so covers you in car, van , bike etc
You may well have heard of them, they are THE breakdown club of europe with something like 20 million members
http://www.adac.de/mitgliedschaft/adac_membership/default.aspx

31. Travel Money - http://www.fairfx.com/travelcardl I have now taken to using this on my trips, a better exchange rate and easier than travellers cheques, if you go through this you get it for free http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/travel/cheap-travel-money#prepaid be aware though that to use it in France at the automated petrol pumps you need a minimum of 100 euros as a buffer for it to work, basically the french seem to instigate an authorisation fee of 100 euros per fill up, it works fine everywhere else!

Useful Links for driving laws in countries we are visiting - have a read and make your own mind up about complying!

Spain - http://driving.drive-alive.co.uk/driving-in-spain.htm or http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/touring_tips/AA_Spain.pdf

This is only a guide, i will have missed something, e-mail each person with the next number and your pearl of wisdom

laters dudes

Matt
