I have just booked a place at the Horizons Unlimited UK Travellers Weekend, in Ripley Derbyshire, next June. The camping weekend runs through from Thursday to Sunday, 23rd-26th June. During the event there will be talks by seasoned travellers like Austin Vince(Mondo Enduro) and Ted Simon (Jupiters Travels), courses on subjects such as tyre changing, first aid, cooking and yoga, and much more. Entry fee £35-£45 subject to when booked. Details below:
http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/meetings/UK2011.php
My plan is to arrange a weeks touring holiday around this, either as the first weekend or second, maybe taking in the Lake District and Scotland. Would be more than happy should anyone wish to join me but be warned......i will be camping when possible and i'll be taking the KLR 650, so pace will definately be relaxed ! Bit of a test run for a bigger trip i'm planning on doing.
If anyone is interested but maybe doesn't want to attend the HU, i'm sure we could arrange an alternative for them. _________________ Just call me Waki.

I take it you've checked out the HU link Stu, so you'll know to book if you plan on attending the event. _________________ Just call me Waki. |

Sorry to say I definitely won't be going to this now as I'm gonna be at the NW200 a couple of weeks prior and going away twice in such a short time without the Mrs would be just taking the piss.
Sorry Waki for doing the Hokie Kokie _________________ Opinions are like assholes...... Ahhh Fcuk it - YOUR WRONG !!!

I'M BACK !! Had a brilliant time at the HU Travellers Meeting this weekend. The old KLR didn't miss a beat on the 340 mile trip, carrying not only me but also camping gear and luggage and still returning over 60mpg ! Learnt a few things about the bike though.....rear shock will need an up grade and the seat is on the hard side .
Practically every one i spoke to had a tale to tell of adventures they'd been on...and these were just those in the camp site. There was a full time table of presentations, film shows and practical workshops, plenty to keep me busy for the weekend . Plus several trade stands selling everything from bike gear, cargo services to adventure holidays.
Some amazing bikes and riders too.....
This is 'Dorothy', a 105cc postie bike ridden by Nathan Millward all the way from Sydney to London
This R1, owned by Sjaak Lucassen, has been everywhere including the Arctic....
Normal sport tyres don't cut it on ice !!!
The DRZ is this photo spent 4 months travelling around South America, ridden by German women Manuela 'Ela' Beis.
I'd previously met Ela at the Ace Cafe in February, so it was great to hear her story on Friday and then have her join me at breakfast this morning for a private chat Highlight of my weekend !
A couple more ....
Had plenty of answers to questions i had regarding Morocco, so a very worth while trip.....look forward to the next (with soft seat fitted !) _________________ Just call me Waki. |

Looks excellent Martin
No wonder that the R1 didn't need panniers as well..... oh hang on it has got panniers built into the topbox

Nice rack... I take it you didn't quite find the time?!
Looks like you had fun, bit sad I missed it but I did have a great time in Snotland. _________________ It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes. - Douglas Adams.

If it was Ripley Surrey and not Yorkshire, I would be there in a shot....
