As a recent early morning convert, and seeing that a couple of others on the forum are now too; Have you been converted to early morning riding.

These last few weeks I've been getting up with the birds and managed to get an average of 150 miles of traffic free roads ridden and been home by 10 ish to get home in time for a light lunch and a few afternoon bevvies.

I'd say that early mornings are cooler, safer and more fun and ya still have the rest of the day to look forward to 2 Thumbs up

Have to say... After years of hearing BarryH and Wivvy saying how much better it is I'd now say its the best time to ride very closely followed by an evening set off.

What to do think?

I voted "Im usually going to work at the time (Between 7 - 8:30am)" mainly because I cant be arsed to get up earlier and I will still have pretty much a full day when I get back.

This has just ruined things. I love having the roads almost to myself. I like to ride, not knit........

The destination would always tend to dictate the departure time for me.......

That said, it is nice to get back home before things start to heat up Wink

I must admit I was quite tempted by Wivvy's later time of 8 on his last run.
Given that I've got to come over from Croydon 8.30 to 9 is ideal (8-8.30 depart).

Years ago when i would often ride the old roads to Cornwall i would leave at 3 in the morning.
The cops were sleeping and there were no speed cameras either.

Usually head out 10-1ish. I get to sleep in that way (which is nice seeing as I have to be up early everyday midweek Sad ) and the roads have usually warmed up by then as does myself!
It means I can also jump into a local pub and have a nice afternoon meal and coffee! Very Happy

Although I am not an early morning person I have always been a fan of the early morning run and have linked up with Jimbo (who lives near me) for the runs down to the start points.

Utter waste of time starting a run at 10:00 - 10:30 unless you are a lover of traffic and sitting/filtering through it or like chatting about riding in the car park of Boxhill rather than actually riding.

Bunny runs are normally radar free - the only hazard being wildlife and a bit of early morning dew. If you have never done one - then you should - it is a bit like owning a sports bike and never having been to France to sample their roads.

Evening runs can be remarkably traffic free too, especially on the return leg - I had an amazing run back from Beachy Head on Wednesday evening just using the A22/A26/A264 back to Edenbridge and onwards to home - the roads at 20:00 were empty.

I still have fond memories (circa 2004 P reg Suzuki 750 days) of an early morning Wivvy run with the usual suspects and some who have moved on to other things - we did four counties by lunchtime.

them were the days eh Bob? i cant remember the run you are talking about as there was so many in those days. Wink
i'd do more (at least post more) but lack of interest in anything but wobbler runs and drinking coffee means:

a. i can't be bothered to organise anything
b. no-one will ever learn roadcraft, how to ride a bike and only be happy doing the conga for miles on end.

sad times Sad
