To be honest, the one on the VTR isn't that much bigger. Unless c&u states a minimum size, could probably go smaller. _________________ Just call me Waki. |

Not as expensive as you think. I set myself a budget, which included buying the bike, of 1500 quid all in. I was lucky as its already taxed and MoT'd! So far, incuding the soon to be paid 180 quid insurance, I've probably spent about 700 quid.
As for the time thing I don't really watch telly and I'm lucky in that I'm normally home from work around 2:30/3pm. Yet I do start at around 5am! So I've a few hours each day to do the work. I limit to about 3 hours. Then its the usual family/pub/paperwork/ bike riding thing.
It always was going to be a budget build. Which means most, if not all, of the work will be done by me. Only specialist machining stuff is out sourced becuase I haven't got the machine tools etc.
Trick is to be realistic and plan budget/timescale. At the mo I'm going to be on budget but maybe a little over on the time. No probs there, stick the MP3 on the amp in the garage and just listen to some music while I tinker away. I've got another boatbuilding project after this is done. |

ooh cheers chap. Will work out the size once the wheel is back in. I'm having alignment issues......well just issues really.
Been mucking about with the wheel while its all in bits, again!
Can you tell what it is yet?
And more slap than a cheap hooker, well the ones I know anyway!!
I think I'll stick with the standard colouring on the wheels. They're that old now they kind of look retro! Binning the idea of whitewalls as they'll look shite with these rims. Took bloody ages to mask it all up. So its staying like that. |

Its been going slower than anticipated of late. Work has got in the way, though I'm not going to complain about having work! The prettyfication stage has sort of started. I got the frame in paint...yay.
Severely pissed of the woman. Its been sitting in the cupboard that houses the boiler, no not her the thing that heats the water, for the past week. Took it out and nibbed it off, flatted it and then polished it.
Stuck it on the coffee table as its too good to leave in the mess in the garage. I wonder if she'll dust it? |

Bloody weather is getting on my tits at the mo. So what to do on a wet sunday morn after a decent early ride. Was sitting looking out of the window at the rain bouncing off the motah when I had this bloody stupid idea.
The chop/bobber, what ever you want to call it, needs a bit of bling. I'm not, in anyway, a chromosexual, but it is starting to look a bit plain. I have mooted the idea of a few polished bits with people. The general reply is the, yeah, look good, but a lot of work". So with that rattling around my empty head and echoing I get the mops out. Result is sort of shiney. Needa bit more work me thinks. 2 bits sort of done. 3 more large bits to go......

Looks nice, but polishing ali is a fecking messy job. Laborious too. Bored isn't the word. Didn't help that the bench grinder went fizz fizz pop either. A good tip here, whatever you do, do not get a 20 quid job from Bodge it & Quick. Its a pile of shite. To be fair it isn't really designed to run for ages without over heating......oops.
The light at the end of the tunnel is getting brighter. I'm almost at a stage where I'm starting to re assemble things. With luck it should be hitting the road in a week or so.
Just got to do those jobs I've been putting off. Minor things like rewiring it. Changing the leaky head gasket.
On the up side. I got a load of stuff ordered for it. Ditched the standard clocks for some 60mm chrome jobbies, need to fabricate a decent bracket tho. Gasket set is on its way too. So the lump can be finished. I need to spray the cylinders and head black. The crank cases I'm going to do silver. Should look ok with the polished side cases.
Still stumped by the headlight though. Every one I look at that I like doesn't have a pilot light fitting. After either a big chrome jobbie or a small 5" Bates type. Needs to be side mount really, haven't got anywhere to mount a bottom mount one. Oh also need a clutch lever complete with the bar clamp. Really struggling with that one. So if you know of anywhere give I a shout. Off now to leave another ring around the bath.....again! |

A bit of a sneak peek as it were. Stuff that I've been ordering has been arriving thick and fast. Works goes forwards apace. Not fast enough for me though. Its turning out better than I thought it would, but do bear in mind its a budget build so its not a show bike, just tidy.......
Duncan did his stuff. Its turned out (see what I did there) spot on. Wheel alignment is bob on (did it agian!).
Thank you very much chap. I owe you a big favour. Failing that what can I get you a bottle of?
Still haven't hit the budget of 1500 quid yet. AND it looks as if I'll get this finished with a few quid to spare. More than enough for a few tanks of fuel and a slap up Fish 'n' Chip supper in London by Sea when its finished.....

Cheers chap. I may, if its ok, call on you to turn that spacer down a gnats cock. I stuck the engine back in and the wheels on. For some unknown bloody reason the chain alignment is out a tad.
Anyway had a good weekend. Got the Loom done and it all bloody checks out. Whats the chances of that!
Got the crank cases and cylinders done too. They look bloody good, although I say so myself.. Its really starting to come together. Still bloody waiting for bits to arrive so I can finally finish the engine. Its starting to iritate me now. They're quick enough to take your money.
On the down side, the bloody MIG went tits up. I couldn't finish the dummy oil tank/electrics box. Undeterred I sparked up the arc welder and made a temporary box that will do for now. Just so I can get it all running. Its doesn't look too bad, just not the way I wanted it. Will have to see about getting another mig welder.
Heres the obligatory pics, Feedback welcome. Its my take on how I think it should be......

Looking really good!
Love the wide drag bars. Any problems with tank clearance when on full lock? Are you keeping the tank anyway, or do I remember you saying you were looking for a different one?
Looking forward to seeing it with the exhaust back on. |
