I hope you dont mind and alternative view and go on a rant at me,but your bike was parked at boxhill near my rat so had a look. Its not the tank thats wrong its the frame on a hardtail the top down tube comes down in a straight line from the headstock to the back wheel. Thats how its done its not your fault but when the conversion was done it was wrong ,anyway nice finish and clean job but spoilt by the frame.Dont be offended but been building bikes for 30+ years good luck with the ride.

I did look at that and think it was odd, but for the money its cost me I wasn't going to get all angle grindy on it. It always was going to be a quick budget build and I wasn't going to start altering frames. The rear tubes should really have been welded on to the rear of the main down tube rather than the back of the loops. In saying that I've had mostly positive comments about it except for the moron who asked the usual "How fast does it go?".....pleb really doesn't get it

Its been fun, on the whole, building it and its still putting a grin on my face when I ride it. In all honesty I'll probably sell it on. I've seen some really nice frames from Hard Up Chops that utilise gsxr or bandit running gear. I may even find an XS650 to flat track. Its all about enjoying myself. If its wasn't a bit of fun in my spare time I wouldn't do it.
Appreciate the input. I'm fairly pleased with the way it turned out.

No i wasnt being funny you should be pleased the way it turned out but if you were to keep it i would re-work the frame and then it would set the lines of better .

Laughing Was that me and Tusky?! I must say, I was mightily impressed by the speed you had out of it! Not for the faint hearted or the loose of grip!

You have some problems though Baz, it was awfully boggy and the fuelling was shite!

'til I found the fuel tap Embarrassed Laughing

No, I really do appreciate the input. This is the first of this sort of thing that I've attempted. I sort of made it up as I went along. Any input from someone that has more experience of this sort of thing is more than welcome.
I looked at other chops/bobbers while out and about. Compared to some this is a stunner, but to others its still a shed. If you know what I mean. Its all a learning curve and we never stop learning!

Aye its a bit of a kick in the teeth when you offer someone a go on it and they say "Its a bag 'o' Shite, worst fecking thing I ever thrown a leg over!" Laughing

Been standing looking at it. I think I found whats wrong with it. The colour of the tank and rear guard. The red with fairy dust speckle is wrong. They need to be either dark, ie black, or silver. Silver with something, Pin Stirpes or something like that. Still not right to my eye.

Black would look good but 'everyone' who builds a bobber does it black! Not sure silver will go with the tyres. You could go for the heavily 'patina'd ' look and be real old skool, found in the Arizona barn stylee Laughing
Dark, burnt orange?

Could take some styling ideas from my favorite bike builder, ex-pat Russel Mitchell of Exile Cycles.

"Arizona barn stylee
Dark, burnt orange?"

Shouldn't be too hard with this weather. I'll just leave it outside uncovered....

Red Oxide has an appeal at the moment.

It also needs spoked rims. This was supposed to be a budget build. Going for the rims would tip me over the budget.

I don't think you will gain anything with "spokes" Barry. It looks great to me.

But, it is a matter of aesthetics and not funtion here. If you want to spoil the look and your bank balance go ahead and get lacing Laughing

It is personal taste of course but the difference between Waki's pic and Baz is phenominal, the modern wheels are ruining the uber "classic" look of the bike. Sure Baz could get a few quid for the wheels on ebay and in turn could get some back off there. It is entirely down to the architect where to go now but think Baz realises that the modern wheels aren't working with the rest of his good work.
