I sold the Akrapovic Evo system that has been on my bike since March, so today I refitted my standard RRW system. I made a weird silencer back in January to test some zorst theories and I fitted it today.
It's about 600mm long, 63 mm diameter with a 35mm perforated tube baffle. Currently packed with stainless wire wool. I know it looks odd , but bare with me, it will be modded over the coming days/weeks. Opinions greatly appreciated and orders taken , should you see summat you like.
So here is weird can 1;

Click on the piccy to hear it?

I wish I had a good understanding of how these things work but unfortunately I don't so can't really comment.

It does look rather thin though which is different...Different is sometimes good so hopefully it gives you a few more horses.

Good Spannering though Alan....I would love to be able to do stuff like that myself. 2 Thumbs up

Thanks mate.
Just pulled the baffle out and I had forgotten to pack it. I shortened it, ready for the slashcut, wrapped and wired stainless wire wool around it and then refitted it. Some pix and a vid. Whadya think?

shortened

wrapped and wired

refitted and tested

One short video

Good work Alan, but you really should chock the wheels when running your bike unattended on that slopey drive!
Frightened the life out of me and it's not even my bike.

Sounds and looks good.

It does amaze me how some people can do stuff like that and I struggle to change the chain and Sprocket Embarrassed

Please don't burn me people but what does the wrapping the silencer in wire wool do? Question

Keeps it nice and clean, saves using nasty cleaners like Cif or Ajax

The latest and last version of the slashcut. If anybody can sort the video problem , that would be splendid!

Next job is better absorbtion material and maybe modding the linkpipe!

Well I was sent some proper silencing material by a very kind gentleman on another forum. So I packed the 250mm long by 35mm bore baffle , polished up the "silencer" and refitted it today. Whadya reckon;

Double click on the piccy to listen to video.

It ain't gonna get any quieter than this unless I fit a pre silencer under the engine. The standard exhaust system has a four into two into one which is about 48mm diameter welded to the linkpipe which is 61mm diameter. Not sure what goes on inside the link pipe, but there aint much silencing! Here's a coupla pix of the collector and link pipe;

So I will either redesign the link pipe with a silencer in it or fit a 4" diameter pre silencer and a serpentine link pipe, as fitted to late model Blades with aftermarket Yoshimura or Akrapovic silencers.

If anything it'll probably make it run lean. Most freer flowing systems will. The worst case senario is that it will start burning valves......

Managed to get out for a bimble around the Marsh today. I picked a 1/2 mile straight between bends, put my phone camera at the side of the road, switched on and got on the bike. Dunno how to edit it , so the the bit between 20 secs and 2.05 mins is OK??? Whadya reckon??? Double click on the piccy!

Use something like windows movie maker... although if you are on XP, that version AFAIK does not support MP4, the Win7 version does

P.S. Sounds nice, but then I'm biased, have you measured the sound level? Is it in No no no territory from the fuzz?

How do you categorise it for insurance purposes btw? My insurance just ask that it's not stamped not for road use etc.

It's way too loud mate, makes yer ears bleed after a 1/2 hour ride. Gonna have to modify the link pipe as well. Dunno about legality, need to get the dBs tested!

Got my MOT, so it's back to weird cans.
Knocked this together today. I had a 60mm tube welded to a washer, 38mm i/d, 73mm o/d. Made the slashcut outta 3" polished stainless tube, 13" long. added a 10" length of 38mm perforated tube and another washer to the end. Just wedged it all together to see what it looked and sounded like. Whadya reckon?

Here's a video . Double click to view and listen.
