I've seen a lot of people parking in Walton-on-the-Hill and walking across to Headley, don't think the walk is that far as its all footpaths and pretty direct. Should be plenty of spots to pick from.

I parked in Reigate & got train to Box Hill & West Humble and walked up the A24 towards Givons Grove and took public footpath about half mile on right to spectate from Old London Road. ignore the "restricted access signs" what they mean in effect is you can't get any further up the hill from there. There were some people walking up the side towards the view point however, so far as i understand it it's all paid for viewing up there... remember. the ladies race does one lap only of the hill... Hampton Court way might be best to see them twice..? Do check the ladies route comes back past the point I viewed the mens race from since if they're doing one lap of the hill it may not.

Not watched it on tv... but like any racing you only really get to see one little bit... but it was a nice cheap morning/afternoon out and gives you an appreciation of just how hard they are riding. There are many out there who have not got the stamina for 150 odd miles on a bike with an engine so We're not worthy to the Olympic/Tour de France etc cyclists Cool

Not looked at traffic but will do at some point.

Showers predicted...... Perhaps a Rum and Coke on the sofa beckons Guinness

After watching the men's race, Is it just me but I don't think there should be any team tactics when it is an individual Medal that is up for grabs? I think it should be every man or woman for themselves and riding their own race..... Confused

It's a cycling thing....and just one example of how this sport of road racing is. Cavendish is World Champion.....Bradley Wiggins won le Tour...all the glory but only with a team of guys who's sole purpose is to help the team leader. At one point yesterday an Austrian rider, Bernhard Eisel, was helping Team GB because his day job is riding with Cav, Wiggins and Froome at Team Sky. Does seem unfair but it would be carnage if it was a free for all. Shocked
As Jimbo, or anyone who has an interest in cycle racing, will probably point out, there is an amazing amount of etiquette within the peleton, not normally aparent to those watching. Doesn't always work out how we wish though..... Crying or Very sad

Yes totally agree with you on the etiquette and lovely to see many of the riders have a natter with other competitors on the route, it was as if they were out on a Sunday jolly but at warp speeds.

The dark side of me would like to see the carnage of every man for himself though Laughing

That etiquette is born out of respect. Anyone who has cycle road raced will know the incredible amount of effort required, often for hours on end. It's for that reason these events are considered team events, and I think that makes for a greater spectacle. You have to have an understanding of the tactics of course.

Although a disappointment from a British perspective there was a worthy winner. He's (just in case you don't know the result) always been a grafter, never frightened to give his all, particularly in lone late breaks. He certainly took advantage of the opportunity yesterday, and remember folks, never look over your left shoulder while leaving room to get by on your right - or vice versa Wink .

Very impressed with Emma Pooley's calmness in dealing with a puncture and getting back with the main group Cool
