*update*

I bought this z750 new for £1800 back in '81, and it's had plenty of mods and paint jobs along the way. Plenty of great memories too. As for modifications, it's had those that were 'the norm' back in the '80's......new suspension, braced frame and swinging arm, Harris pipe etc. The engine has been ported and fitted with Moriwaki cams and has always run with K&N / ram-air filters. Oil cooler is also an addition.
The respay i did myself and is the latest of several designs the bike has carried over the years.......'tis also my favorite, a combination of Moriwaki 'works' colours with the Kawasaki design layout of the 1980's.

She's now due for a face lift and a few more updates ! Work begins.....

The frame has been stripped back to bare metal (serial numbers and 'Made In Japan' now visible again !) and various unused brackets removed. It was then resprayed black. I will now over the coming weeks / months be cleaning, painting and modifying parts ready to fit as required. Box of goodies include Renthal bars, all stainless nuts and bolts, mini indicators and electronic dash.

Going for a more racer look this time rather than custom with brushed ally finish not polished, satin paint on engine as oppossed to gloss......keeping the classic looks with, as with dash, a few tweeks to bring her up to date.

Frame now in the workshop and ready for the work to begin.

Getting there slowly...... Smile Swinging arm has been stripped, repainted, bearings greased and re-fitted to frame. Fork lowers also repainted and have been rebuilt with new bushes and rechromed tubes. I'll then be in the position to fit the wheels and have a basic rolling chassis.
Seems like a never ending job of cleaning / repainting various brackets and fittings.....battery box being on the bench at the moment. Decided that i'm not keen on the polished heads of all the new stainless bolts....neat job, but look too much like chrome plate. So now i'm using a scouring pad on each one to give a satin finish which fits in with the racer look i'm after rather than bling custom. Renthal bars are on, so switches, levers and grips can go on while waiting for painted parts to dry.
Will try and grab a few photo's when i get the chance. Still loads to do before i even start on the engine and carbs...no nasty surprises as yet.....hope it stays that way. Pray

Working on the brakes today. Callipers all stripped, cleaned, painted and fitted with new oil and dust seals.

Front end is now sorted and need to start thinking about mounting brackets for new dash....yes that's all it is, the empty holes will take lights for indicators, high beam etc. Cool

Thought i'd better take it down off the stand before the frame became too heavy. Have just ordered c/s kit and new disc's for the front end. Still 1001 little jobs to do...cleaning, painting and fabricating...but heading in the right direction.

to be continued.....

I cant even get into my workshop, large fridge, moving debris and many boxes in the way.

Still, it is built, it has a ring main, racking, no lighting yet or bench but as spring arrive it will be cleared out and finished.

So yes Waki, I am also jealous.

Blimey Kwacker is looking brilliant. The Z750 was my first four cylinder bike and I loved it.The Z1000 rightly gets a load of praise but I have always felt the 750 was under rated by many.

Hope its ready for Spring.

Both wheels now finished. Repainted and new disc's all round along with new sprocket on the rear.

Handle bar switches both stripped, repainted, contacts checked and cleaned before re-assembly. Fitted on bars with new grips.

Bike back on it's wheels for the first time in two years !!

Now looking to start work on the engine, get it installed, and begin on the wiring.....still plenty to do.

Dragged the bike out for some fresh air while i sorted out the workshop.

Don't plan to take pillions so rear bracket only has the exhaust mounted to it.....so i carried out some more weight saving !

Very Happy

Erm... Embarrassed Not really. However !!! After visiting the Bike Shed Event* in Shoreditch the other week, I've been motivated to getting things back on track. Very Happy Really need the engine fitted in the frame and then go from there. Hope to have the engine in the workshop at the weekend to be made ready.
Things to do from then.....wiring, carbs, chain and some tlc on the paint. But the engine is the key. Watch this space.

Just a heads up, when irecently took my zzr for its mot i was chatting with the tester ( a friend also ) and he was saying the rules are going bonkers and with things like ...and i quote " if it has a pillion seat and the rear footpegs are missing its a fail" ....now whether its bullshit i dont know im not an MOT tester but i do hate seeing people throw money away for testing if its going to fail. might be worth getting verification Waki.

Shocked Brilliant, thanks for that Pete seriously didn't know about that. Will have to bolt them on just for the test which is a pain because the bracket fitted has had lugs, that located footrest, machined off. So will have to use spare and transfer the brake assembly over. Rolling Eyes

Not finished yet Steph, had the Tuono to repair and some work on Cpt. Slows bike to do.....but all sorted. Now have four weeks to get it ready.

Latest pic with engine fitted.....

Spent this rather damp day in the workshop refitting the wiring loom. Almost every connection lined up, it's just the additions and modified items that require further attention. Need to fit the wheel sensor and wire up the Vapor dash....and then calibrate it all. Exhaust has been fitted also.

Still have oil cooler and lines to install, chain to fit and rebuild carbs.

Bike still needs to be finished by the end of this month if I am to stand any chance of getting it tested and ready for the VJMC meet at Box Hill.
