Surrey Air Ambulance, based from Redhill Aerodrome, starting today will be carrying a stock of Blood to enable transfusions at the scene of an incident.

Blood Running charity, SERV (Service by Emergency Rider Volunteers) are supporting the work of the Surrey Air Ambulance by keeping their stock levels maintained by daily rotation from a nearby blood bank. SERV will also be providing cpver for ad-hoc deliveries as required during the day to maintain the required stock level at the hangar.

At a future date, the Surrey Air Ambulance will operate at night also, so this support role will no doubt become more important.

Been reading about this on the Facebook pages, really should help improve chances & save more lives.... and in our area!!

This service from what I can gather should also help reduce any unused blood stocks by having them where needed quicker

Having seen road side medical assistance & air bus in action on HFB, I am in awe, he could not have got better care and treatment at the scene

Did my first stock run Wednesday night, and I am on the stanby rota for any ad-hoc requirements, given where I work I am ideally placed to provide ad hoc cover during normal work hours.
