Scatty and I went to the MAG Annual General Conference in Bristol over the weekend.
It wa very interesting, friendly, efficient and democratic (but prepare for some good natured stick if you arguments are half assed or not thought through).
Great night out afterwards as well.
Had a good ride up in the rain cross country on Friday then a good ride back in the sunshine on Sunday.
We helped out at the MAG stand in Horsham at an Italian day over Easter, I was amazed at how difficult it was to get £25 out of anybody to protect an activity they love.
Type Approval and Super MOT's are the next threats, anti tampering is already with us for bikes under 47BHP. MAG believe it will be applied to bigger bikes as soon as they can get away with it (the first section as passed without 95% of MEP's even reading it, it was not printed in all the official languages)
No changes will be allowed, not even an aftermarket air filter or different sprockets (does not apply to Tuskys GS for obvious reasons.....have you ever tried to change the drive ratios on a shafty)
Anyway if I get any more news I will pass it on.

A real shame if something that could effect us all is not getting more high line publicity, think it is that it isnt easily understood to the common man (myself included)

Or do we feel that even if we protest it will get passed regardless?

I thought GS shaft drives altered ratios over time as the teeth fell off the hypoid gears Smile

All jokes aside, there are areas of legislation, not just in motorcycling that just "appear" overnight, all credit to MAG for fighting our corner.

I think is a combination of,

1. Not wanting to get involved (in case it sucks time)
2. Not wanting to spend the money.
3. Ignorance of the facts.
4. MAGs image as helmetless greasy geezers on chops (and there are some)
5. People think MAG are a one pony protest group ie helmet law.

In fact they are a professional well run team with enormous enthusiam for the whole of biking.

MAG wll do the work behind the scenes but they need more money. They have 9500 members at £25 a person, thats 240K. They double that with fundraising. I just imagine what they could do with 50,00 members.

The EU would reel from the shock and go after other softer targets (horse riders, cyclists, mountain climbers, knitting etc)

Hve a look at their website then if you can, do a DD. The magazine and events are worth it alone.
