I have always put super unleaded petrol (i.e 97 / 98 octane) in my gixxers (both the 750 and now the 1000) until today when I had no choice and realised that standard unleaded can be approx 8pence per litre cheaper.

Not that that is a material amount for the miles I do, but why throw money away.

There was a technical article in one of the bike mags about petrol the other day. (think it was Bike).

It explained that if your bike says it needs high octane fuel then you'd better put it in, but if it doesn't then it's a waste of money.

I waste a lot more than a few pence most Friday evenings in the pub, so I tend to get the good stuff anyway. The KTM has to have it, and I can't remember what the R6 likes.

You do know LRP is a replacment for 4 Star or LEADED petrol. You'll probably do serious damage to your engine if it's unleaded only.

4 star or lead replacement petrol was/is used for engines with hard valve seats and valve stems.
basically (very basically) the lead or its substitute was deposited on to the said parts and provided a cushion effect ............todays modern engines have been made of softer materials hence no need for leaded or lead replacement petrol.
unleaded and super unleaded have different octane ratings the higher the rating the bigger and quicker the explosion will occur in the cylinder very modern engines with electronic ignitions actually detect this and advance /retard the ignition to accomodate this and a noticable effect takes place regarding power.
engines designed to run on superunleaded will begin to pink if normal unleaded is used.
please take note i am ot an authority on this and welcome any corrections as i said this is my very basic knowledge of this subject.

sorry slappy but you got it round the wrong way leaded petrol does not need hard valve seats because the lead puts a coating on them and protects them Very Happy
