Dunno... its been done to death.... same as the whole headlight on off thang... (2003 hondas now have no choice in this!!!)

Upshot is people will do what makes then feel safe regardless of if it actually works or not.

Still a valid fashion accessory for the young man about town?

We'd love to hear your views.

This has been a common thread in biking for ages.... Basically Hi Vis doesn't keep you safe.

The idea is fairly sound but there are two very important points to remeber....

One is car drivers "don't look" more often than "don't see" so it makes scant difference what you wear.

The second is that your aim in wearing Hi Viz is to stop the camoflage effect... This can be achieved in otherways, like moving side to side within your lane. Best thing to take the appropriate action for the conditions you are riding in...

Ie solo in thick fog Hi Viz is probably good.... but against a bright setting sun it may make you disappear so may not be appropriate.

With respect, you don't half talk some bollox at times. Hi Viz on the roads. Ok so go tell the HSE that they're wrong, the police, the AA, RAC etc. Of course thats just my opinion Very Happy

I don't wear one myself, but the way I see it is, wearing one WILL make ya more visible to the other peeps you are riding with. It WILL make ya more visible to the peeps who are on the lookout for bikes (they will spot ya sooner) It WON'T make any difference to the ones who ain't looking and couldn't give a stuff about anyone but themselves.
As for headlights making ya more visible. I once watched a documentary about camouflage. I saw a tank made to disappear using lights on the side of it! Has made me wonder about their usefulness ever since.
The only time Hi-vis will ALWAYS make ya easier to spot is at night, even then it's only if ya directly in front of someone though.
As Dave has said, we will always wear or do whatever makes us feel safe, I still run with my headlight when riding on m/ways and dual carriageways despite what I said above for instance.

Ah but Baz have you seen the state of Motorway Road Works.... With all the bloody orange flashing beacons you can't see where the vehicles are let alone the peeps wearing their obligatory Hi Viz.....
