A large part of yesterday taken up and it's only just getting to the finger squashing hernia giving (engine out) stage. Added to that, the ends of the collector on the exhaust turned to brown dust Laughing

Now I'm at this stage I can't even ride it somewhere to burn it without putting it back together Laughing . Going to replace throttle cables as they are a PITA to get to without the carbs in, more expense... then where do you draw the line? Should I be putting new carb diafragms in? Bollocks, I'll shut the garage and go make some sparks on roundabouts Laughing

I'm confused as to why you would want to change the throttle cables and diaphragms.....if they're not giving problems, leave 'em alone.
Ah yes - rotten exhaust. Been there done that. Be aware that alternative makes DO NOT fit the standard pipes and/or collectors..... DAMHIKT
If you need any help and advice about engine out/in, gizza bell. There are a few traps for the unwary - again DAMHIKT

I was going to replace them since I have had them fail on other bikes with less mileage, and like all these things, including the Cam belt, which I also plan on changing are considerably easier with the engine out.

As for the carb diagfragms, assuming they are not that expensive they are nice and easy to change as the carbs are out anyway. if they are pennies, which I very much doubt... they'll get changed, if not they'll be left.

You do like making life difficult for yourself dontcha.
I have never heard of a throttle cable failure on a Pan, either from the PanClan, or in the various forums. My red Pan had 126,000 miles on it when I sold it, and the throttle was still as sweet as, likewise the diaphragms. The cambelt can be changed with engine in situ, that's how Craig did mine. They need changing from 80k onwards. Did I give the new owner the new cambelt off the old engine? Or did I give it to you? If I didn't..... ajolopies.
As far as zorsts are concerned, you're best off trying to get original bits from breakers or ebay. Changing to another make entails changing the whole system, 'cos the downpipes/collector box/end boxes are different to the OEM kit, and DO NOT interchange. Consider Stainless, last forever. That's what I did on both of mine.

Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Fcuking Job centre, thick uncommunicative bloody twat's. Why would they stop payments just because I change address, I had to fill out the same form twice as they didn't get it right first time, that was in the job centre so they had it to take up stairs and deal with. How bloody difficult is that? If that is beyond their capability clearly they should be the fcukers signing on! Then without telling me they stop my benefit...what the fcuk is that about? Seriousley these people are retarded twats. Does a change of address mean I have been working..err I think not!!! So for the last month no payments, no wonder my overdrdaft is increasing. Fcuk you job centre!!!! Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

Dragging the Varadero out the garage for the first time since the off and finding a few more bits wrong Sad

Instrument panel popped out of casing, scratched fairing and bent centre stand. Fingers crossed the mechanic can wave the magic welder and make good. Always duct tape if not.

Ouch:

Following the most beautiful Triumph Speed triple on the way home form work that was being ridden by someone who was obviously terrified of 1) its power and 2) falling over. Worst slow control I have ever seen and a lack of confidence that left him in the path of a couple of homicidal Cage drivers that wanted to overtake him.

What A Waste !!!

We all had to start somewhere and were all learners at some point. In years to come he/she may be following you and thinking "why doesn't this old git give it up and get out of my way"

Did some work on my bike a week and a half ago (on Sat'dy), and the horn stopped working. No idea why, didn't even touch the horn. So, I was coming off a roundabout on the way to work this morning and rather glumly, as I've been doing most days (cept yesterday coz I took the CBR600 to work, not the Hornet) tested the horn...Fk me did I jump when it worked. Petrol prices, despite oil prices having fallen they're still on the rise. That'd be something to do with the government increasing tax by twice the European average to "assist economic recovery".

I don't see it. Anything you do to fuel prices is going to be like dominoes. Or a slinky. Once you push it down that first step, it just keeps going. Great idea Mr Brown, hike the petrol price, which will make everything more expensive for companies, so they'll hike their prices and try to cut costs at the same time. Which will mean they'll fire people, not give wage increases, etc. Which will make it even harder for the already hard pressed joe average to pay out for petrol every week to get to and from work.

Tell me, what the FUCK were you on when you thought up that bright idea? You being paid off by the taliban to bring economic ruin to the western countries? Twat.
