Shocked Sad What happened?

Hope the ego is okay! Wink

Dunno what happened TBH, it all happened too fast...turning right out of a T-junction, the next thing I know I was on the deck with the bike on top of my right leg. I'd love to be able to blame it on tyres/suspension/diesel etc etc but really, I think I rushed the manoeuvre on a bike I am not familiar with yet Wink

Broken footpeg, rear brake lever bent, front brake lever snapped off at stress point (TFFT) so still useable, and scratches in all the right places to make me look like a proper learner, Laughing

On a serious note, I got the Sidi B2 boots a couple of months ago, and the bike fell on the back of my ankle as my toes were bent upwards against the tarmac....any lesser boot and I would have been in A&E right now having pins put in Shocked

Sorry to hear about this - GWS

Nope... not that... only thing i can think of is that the expansion tank was too full and that the expansion caused the lid to pop off a little and then create a syphon. I don't know just ran it for nearly an hour with no issue. Oh well I have an RAC card Cool Laughing

The expansion tank should only be full when the motor is hot.
Did you replace any of the hoses while the engine was out? If not, you're a cnut.
Did you replace the hose from rad cap to expansion tank? If not, you're a cnut.
Did you check on the hoses underneath the carbs? If not, you're a cnut.

All hoses replaced... and the rad cap. New motor has a blown head gasket Sad Crying or Very sad and when you give it some it blows all the coolant out. ffs... did about 450 miles in the past 2 days out of nessity and only cracked the throtlle and barely lost a drop, soon as the engine labours or you give it some it starts to blow coolat out of th expansion tank

The assumption on my part was that there's a hairline fault in one of the head gaskets.

Taking the line of least resistance, I spoke to my old man who I recalled had a similar problem with his V8 land rover years ago. Turns out he'd put some cheap coolant in it, and had the exact same issue.

Since I was down in Trashford @ my sisters house, I took a bimble to Kent Honda and they concurred that rubbish coolant could cause this since it could locally boil and of course a teaspoon of water makes 50x thats of steam... So I bought their recommended stuff, went back to Trashford. Drained it, refilled with the new stuff... no feckin difference. Back to the drawing board then. Arse. Confused

Think back to France Duncan........
That was my head gasket going...going...gone.

And that's why I replaced the engine, rather than remove the head, skim it and generally fuck about with it. Seems like you have a tough choice now. If it's blowing.......it's blowing, and no amount of different coolant will make the slightest bit of difference.

BTW, the motor you bought didn't happen to come from an ex-plod ST by any chance.....? Did the vendor offer a 3 month warranty?

Yeah I remember France....

It was a bike breaker on ebay, will fire them a message, worst case i have a pair of perfectly good heads here on my other engine, the arse is

a. really a 50/50 job to determine which one's gone, so will be two head gaskets.

b. I bet you can't do it with the engine in the bike.

c. I now just want to burn it Laughing

d. cambelt is £45

e. 2 x head gasket = £52

The coolant thing was worth a try as it was shite I put in and you can have local boiling if you have rubbish coolant in so was IMO worth a try

I'm not sure if it can be done with the engine in frame, I would imagine it would be possible, but fiddly. Personally I would take the motor out, at least that way you will find it easier to change the cambelt as well. Oooh, the fun of timing it all up again.................that alone would make me want to take the motor out.

At least you have two good heads on t'other motor.

Kawasaki do stabilisers for other models, should be a fairly easy mod to get them on the Versys. Wink
