Oh No!! another engine change!!!!
Sorry I can not be there to help this time... |
Yeah the "good" engine I bought one of the head gaskets has gone, ebay seller doesn't want to know... Thanks to MrSlapE I've been put in contact with a chap with a rather low mileage mill to fit... although I'll need to change the cam belt before I do so as it's been sat idle for 3 years and they tend to get stuck in shape over time and then do naughty things that involve them jumping/breaking and generally causing a ding/ping/bang valves meet pistons type scenario. |
We know all about Pan head gaskets, don't we boys and gurrls

Looks good so far. I've checked valve clearances and they are at the lower end of the limits suggesting the mileage is as low as is claimed. Will treat it to a cambelt before it goes in too. Didn't want to weigh out £50 for one just in case it was a no go. _________________

Anyone who's ever manhandled a pan engine will concur that they are a heavy lump... So I made a cradle for it to sit in to make it stable on my trolley.
By making the cradle quite wide it's very stable. This engine sat on it's sump would topple easily.

Don't forget to replace all the coolant hoses that will be difficult to change once the lump is back in place. And don't use jubilee clips - use the Honda sprung ones. |

You could have had mine if I'd known. I knocked one up out of steel section and welded wheels to it. Was a godsend for working on the lump... |

Cheers fella. Already had the trolley, just needed the 4x2 frame/cradle to help me right it from the laid down position where myself and gorilla grip boudicas put it, and walk it on to the trolley and stop it toppling or being inclined to once on there _________________

210 miles on the bike, including a great route from home to Goodwood. Only 2.5 miles of "motorway" type road, Pirbright and some other good twisties.
Great to speak to those I was able to at Goodwood too. _________________ "My own opinion is enough for me, and I claim the right to have it defended against any consensus, any majority, anywhere, anyplace, anytime. And anyone who disagrees with this can pick a number, get in line and kiss my ass"

Well Not today but on Thursday but I've only just managed to get some time to sit down and catch my breath...
My eldest Daughter and her Husband have made me a Granddad again. Jack was born on Thursday weighing in at a healthy 7lbs 5 ozs. His Mum, Dad and big sister are all excited but knackered.
Now I'm off to visit him again
Ohh and a BIG THANKS to Biggus for coming to the rescue after my first attempt at being an amateur Motorcycle Mechanic. I thought Id never be able to line up that back wheel again after getting the puncture fixed. Its amazing how a 30 min job can end up taking up all morning and part of the afternoon. _________________ Opinions are like assholes...... Ahhh Fcuk it - YOUR WRONG !!!

WMMST having another "Isambard moment"**
4" flywheel for my scratch build "as and when" stationary engine project turned between centres, just needs centre boring, and the keyway broached (diameter of bore/broach size depending on what I can beg/steal/borrow/acquire for a good price).

Back on the bike Sunday after a bit of an enforced lay-off. Thoroughly enjoyed myself. Great to meet up with people old and new.
Akrapovics fitted during the lay-off proved to allow the bike to breathe better and produce more torque noticeable when the fuel tank hit me in the chest whilst accelerating in second gear

Early inheritance from my father. My grandfathers tool chest, which was an engagement present from my grandmother to my grandfather in 1948 or thereabouts. Still has the makers label on the key 74 years on. It's not worth anything in monetary terms I expect, in any case it will give me far more joy to use with happy association with it in my grandfathers shed and laterly on my father's bench than can be priced.

Yup, somehow managed to post a link of the last Swiss/Italian Trip instead of posting Loco's Sat Nav for roundabouts _________________ Boxhill Chippendales
