What I thought was going to be a miserable 180 miles in the rain today turned out to be a very enjoyable ride...and the roads dried up just in time for the Blackdown Hills section of the journey back to Devon
Finally got round to assembling the full luggage set on the Versys, along with handguards to keep the wind and rain off the hands, and we're ready to go touring!
I know it's very few people's cup of tea, but every time I get on the Versys I like it a little bit more. I honestly couldn't find one single bike I would trade it for right now without spending another 5 grand. |

Grenoble huh I would be really impressed to see a photo of the triple going up this road

Nearest to that road for "Hairyness" is the D900C gmap street view it's by no means a fast road, it's not particularly well travelled, gmap I saw no other vehicle on that 10 mile stretch
Think this snap was taken along there...

Did you take that road because it cuts the corner to the main road to Digne?
Nice find..... |

I did... although I'd already taken a looky on street view. Was quite a peaceful spot, although I would not have wanted to come to any bother along there. If it were raining it would not have been a part of my route! _________________

Nope, the shoei was a better fit. But I was so impressed by the HJC I thought I'd let people know. I wouldn't have taken it off the shelf unless the salesman had suggested it, my preconceptions I suppose |

First day playing with the R1
Love it.. Sooo many people warned me off and said things like 'be careful of the power' etc etc, but I haven't found it half as bad as I was expecting. Yes, you are well above the limit before you expect to be, but it doesn't feel like you've accelerated too hard, it's just smooth and manageable power delivery. Did have my first power wheelie experience about an hour ago... I may have done a little sex wee I was so excited!!
The handling is the other thing I was worried about, but once I got used to the concept of actually having to push it down rather than letting it fall like my old bike I was feeling much better. If I'm honest, I feel more confident riding the R1 than I ever did on the CBR, and hopefully that will start to reflect in my riding.
Gotta get my wrists strengthened up though, after a couple of hours my left Wrist felt like the tendons were gonna snap every time I pulled the clutch in. Just hope it gets better with time!
All in all, very very happy with the choice - an look forward to being excited about riding again for some time to come _________________ Not man enough for an R1....... FZ1's are cooler anyway |

they are schweet aint they? Oodles of smoooooooth torque from anywhere in the rev range means you dont have to rag it to go fast!
Instead of just working on your wrists (!) start gripping the tank with your knees and hold yourself up with your stomach muscles, you're on a litre bike now! |
