The previous conservative government had first decided to make all motorcycle riders wear fluorescent clothing, but backed down after many protest rides. They changed the law to force bikers to "only" wear a fluorescent armband. On its own a stupid and senseless law.
After many protest rides organized by the FFMC, today the current socialist government has also caved in and suspended the law. But watch it... the law has not been revoked but suspended. More information gathering is going to be done by the government, and it might be that at a later stage they'll bring back an even stricter law.
Apparently the Breathalyzers are out as well, or at least until more research has been done.

So far as I can tell that particular one is more to do with the French lunchtime drinking culture, like all these ideas, those who want to break the law will, be it speed, drink etc.
Always surprises me the shock on the French café owners faces when I decline a bottle of vino with my lunch, especially the rural ones.
Will keep an eye on what happens, as much as I am not a big fan of mass protests, that said, the French seem to have the concept nailed, and the French seem to support their fellow countryman's right to campaign for their "rights" - the UK populous are in that respect more selfish and see another man’s protest as a personal attack on their day by inconveniencing them... Maybe it's the French "work" ethic? "Sorry I am late boss, some bikers blocked the town" might suit them more? _________________
